Lingerie Uncovered

Home: Predictions: Lingerie Styles 2003:

A sneak preview for Winter 2003/2004

Forecasts are that lingerie will soon return to its core values of elegance, femininity and function. This new lingerie trend is fuelled from the desire to feel creative, bright and confident. Lingerie is shrugging off its 'wear to be seen' role with cleaner fresher tones. As skirts and dresses become popular again, hipster briefs will be in strong demand and lingerie as foundationwear will come to the forefront.

As the trend towards stricter tailoring evolves, suits will be re-cut to flatter the feminine form, combining power with magnetism. A sleek and groomed look will herald the return of control garments, such as body shapewear and corsets.

With the 'feel good factor' as the primary buying influence, and as skirts and dresses become popular, hipster briefs will be in strong demand

Lingerie garments such as boned bustiers and corsets are a key element of the 'Medieval trend'. Inspired by armour, and romanticised with very feminine fabrics and trims, the corset and bustier add drama for a very individual look.

There is also a trend towards a nostalgic tribute of country life, vis a vis patterning and colour. The look requires simple and classic shapes cut with a modern panache. The pieces are elegant and athough harking to the past fit perfectly with today's contemporary wardrobes.

Teen-driven styles that bridge beachwear, lingerie and street wear will, it is thought, remain highly localised.

Conversely, lingerie will be used as an accessory to convey a contemporary seductive language. Taking its influences from global cultures and essentially experimental in its eroticism.

Sensual simplicity, well-being and balance will drive the lingerie market to fresher tones, sophistication and elegance.
