The Slip is Back
Slips or the petticoat without a doubt will be a major trend for early 2006. Offering sophisticated and feminine glamour, the slip is both an ideal solution for the sought-after "sheer" look and aids the hour-glass silhouette, a major “Dior New Look” trend for this years womanly styles.
A satin petticoat or slip is a fabulous item of lingerie to wear, giving a sensuous feel of something silky. Watch out for slips in bright colours, the slip will be a perfect accompaniment for that near-transparent or sheer dress, another major trend this season. Designers such as Donna Karan, I D Sarrieri and Betsey Johnson are all offering slips in their collections and it is expected Agent Provocateur will release a dozen or so different styles of slips too.
As part of the new version of sexiness, the sultry slip will play a major role of Vintage Refinement trend expected this year.
The three major trends we anticipate this year are:
Eastern Promise
This year will bring an exotic profusion of styles and themes, inspired by the east and enriched by the desire to travel and find adventure. The sense of mysticism and the interplay of transparency will feature strongly. Expect a fascination with everything Japanese, the kimono will once again become a popular item, together with myriad of other oriental influences.
Africa will also be a rich source of creation. Sheer tunics with a Moroccan edge combined with cropped leggings offer the excitement and mystery of an Arabian night.
A minimalist Eastern aesthetic together with an understated elegance and casual simplicity will promote lounge-wear pieces with artisan detailing which could be combined with items that have a relaxed sports influence.
Softened geometrics and abstract florals will go hand in hand with chalky neutrals, accented by whites and shimmering gold, or sophisticated dark tones.
The Eastern Promise Trend will offer a sensuous adventure with a discreet unobtrusive sophistication and a return to simple values.
Vintage Inspired Refinement
Tired of the tacky excesses of the current lingerie market it is believed women will be gracefully turning to a new version of sexiness. Romance, with a whisper of luxury and nostalgic glamour are back in fashion.
Lace will offer a source of romantic inspiration, transparency a subtle channel to theatrical seduction. Retro chic will offer a world of refinement filled with an eclectic mix of styles, subject only, to the sole condition of graceful elegance.
Pale warm neutrals, such as creams and peach tones are highlighted by sharp accents in colour.
Tinged with a jet set opulence, a taste for high couture, delicacy and sophisticated luxury, the vintage refinement mix will offer a liberal interpretation of all eccentricities that result in a certain spellbound glamour and understated star quality.
Bubble Gum Americana
Homespun Americana will influence the youth/street market with an emphasis on geometrical prints, contrasted colours and a mix of fabrics.
Fabrics will have a jeans-wear focus with woven checks and jerseys accented with diverse patch motifs, trims and appliques.
Faded primary colours of red and blue will feature strongly, together with whites, denim blues and neutrals such as rye brown as a background tones.
Cotton loungewear that is both comfortable, ergonomic and easily adaptable will be in vogue.
Festivity is the keyword with desire to change tracks and create new codes of seduction. All silhouttes are acceptable, provided they are comfortable, ergonomic, adaptable and suit the needs of everyone.
